Pirates Close In On Witbooi

Pirates Close In On Witbooi

Orlando Pirates have made an approach over a possible move for Cape Town City teenage sensation Emile Witbooi, with reports linking the Buccaneers to the young winger.
The Citizens, however, have refused to budge on their €1 million (R18.7 million) price tag for the youngster.
That impasse has left talks at a standstill for now. In the meantime, Witbooi has rejoined training with Cape Town City as both sides consider how to proceed.
The reported interest follows the Buccaneers' sale of Relebohile Mofokeng to Belgian champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise earlier in this transfer window. Across South African football circles, many observers see Witbooi as the player most likely to conjure the kind of brilliance Mofokeng showed on the field.
Witbooi was born on 28 August 2008 in Kimberley and rose swiftly to become one of the nation's most thrilling prospects. His father is Surprise Ralani, the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City winger, and Witbooi's own displays have already drawn attention from leading clubs overseas.
He honed his ability at Tshwaragano All Stars and the School of Excellence before signing with the Cape Town City academy in January 2024.
He then wrote himself into the record books on 2 March 2025, debuting against AmaZulu FC aged just 16 years, six months and five days. That outing made him the youngest footballer ever to feature for Cape Town City's senior side, as well as the ninth-youngest player to make a top-flight debut in South African history.
Later that same year, he added another milestone by becoming the club's youngest-ever scorer. His swift ascent also brought him a trial at Chelsea FC and a representation agreement with Roc Nation Sports.

A PROMISING ROAD LIES AHEAD
After Cape Town City were relegated, Witbooi cemented a regular role in the Motsepe Foundation Championship in spite of his youth.
His impressive campaign, meanwhile, saw him shortlisted for both Young Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season at the 2026 PSL Awards.
He has also continued to shine internationally. Witbooi featured prominently for South Africa's Under-17 team at the 2025 Under-17 AFCON and the FIFA U-17 World Cup, then helped the Under-20 side claim the COSAFA Region 5 Youth Championship, a run that also earned him selection in the tournament's Best XI.
With Orlando Pirates on the hunt for another top-class young player after losing Mofokeng, Witbooi is firmly one to keep an eye on. Cape Town City, however, have set out their position plainly, and the reported R18.7 million valuation currently separates the two clubs.
